April 9-10th

April 9th Click on Picture to see video

Coulee reports treats at:  7:56; 8:57; 9:21 and 10:17 and three more at 1:36 5:15 and 5:18 per StatOr.

Meanwhile, between deliveries, Bear and Willow continue to vacation in The Love Shack (™ Jill) 5 star digs, preening and kissing and, yes bonding! Every great couple deserves a nanny owl ! No Cam is set up on New box. Jill and Gary will remove the present box once these owlets have fully fledged.

Interesting post fledge note from Jill regarding Bear and Willow's previous clutch: " Last year's baby stayed one month AFTER learning how to fly, then they quit feeding him and he left." Could THIS be the Nanny owl?

Flash from the past photo, can you believe how time flies?

April 9th- A Special Note from Jill regarding our owlets

For some days now, after keeping track of owlets inside and outside the box, we think there is a good possibility that we only have six owlets at this time.  The feathered remains of what appeared to be an owlet were found in the field near the house, and it appeared to have been there some time. If this indeed was one of our owlets, many things could have happened-- it could have gotten sick, or it could have had problems since hatching.  Please realize the uncertainty in all of this, as there is absolutely no way to know who it is, or how it happened.  The size points to it being one of the younger ones, although many think they are still seeing Elf.

Although this is hard, we have to trust Nature and her ways.  We like to know everything, but also must realize sometimes there are no easy answers, and sometimes no answers at all.  Please keep this in perspective, and continue to be positive, both personally and in chat, and be thankful for all of our healthy owlets that we continue to enjoy and love, and that have been given every chance for survival in a difficult world for them today.

April 8-9 Rainy Night

________________________________________________

Couleedam reports : treats delivered at 7:59, 8:36, 9:00, 10:20, 12:17 & 12:40 -
To the best of my "eyes" there are currently 3 in the box.  Earlier in the evening they had lots of beak to beaking going on in the box.
Hundon continues:  I stayed until 3.09 and no deliveries in that time. The rain seems to have eased off and there's an owl on the perch that has been there some time, came from the branch, not the box-
3:11, 3:23 deliveries
Final Update from Lonestar 7:00 am
Final TREAT report: Total 8-- 7:59, 8:36, 9:00, 10:20, 12:17;12:40 -(rain)- 3.11; 3.23; Rain off and on all night; No "skips" in data so this should be good report. Remember off-camera treats possible!!    Data:  coulee, hundon, Lone
Very little activity during night likely due to weather-- probably everyone hunkered down due to off and on rain.  A flurry of activity right before daylight.  Saw one owl off to right climbing, one off to left, and another arrived flying.  The flying arrival went into box.
Daylight Report: There were still 3 moving shapes in owlbox before daylight, like coulee reported earlier.  I saw one come back in (arrived flying). Thought I saw at least one outside that didn't come back in. Only my best guesses./LoneStar 7:25am

Couleedam's Fleet Report: (Fledge and Treats)
8:31 Fling & Fly
8:57 Treat from Nanny owl (Bear and Willow were bonding in the new owlbox)  Jill said she was sure they were bonding when the treat was delivered!
9:09 treat and an owlet flew off with the parent
9:39 treat and 2 owls came and 1 went in
At 11:16 an owlet came back and I am fairly certain it was Noelle because she knew how to get in the door, but wasn't as graceful as a parent!
12:11 a.m. and 1:10 a.m. Treats delivered
(After 1:10 ) 2 owlets are flapping in the tree and I think 3 are in the box as one just flew out again.

Future Fledge Notes by Thimblemoss!
Willow and Bear have been bonding for about a week now. Not sure when Wllow will (has) started to produce eggs to be fertilized. But once she does, there is a 48 hour window when they can be fertilized. Then she'll start laying again!
